Letting Go and Rising Above What Holds You Back

Life can feel heavy. We carry worries, fears, and painful memories that hold us back. Like an anchor tied to your ankle, these burdens keep you from moving forward.

But you do not have to stay in this place. You have the strength to rise. No matter how deep you feel, you can let go and reach for the light above.

This article will help you release what no longer serves you. Through gentle meditation, you will see yourself breaking free and floating toward peace. You are not your past. You are not your fear. You are something stronger.

Take a deep breath. Let this be the moment you choose freedom. You deserve peace, lightness, and a fresh start.

Letting Go and Rising to Find Peace in the Present Moment

Fear pulls you away from now. It keeps you trapped in the past or worried about the future. But peace lives in the present. Right here. Right now.

Find a quiet space. Sit or lie down in a way that feels good. Close your eyes if you wish. Take a slow, deep breath in. Fill your lungs completely. Breathe out gently, releasing tension.

Let your body relax. Let go of the outside world. This is your time to rest.

Letting Go and Rising by Seeing What Is Holding You Back

Picture yourself sitting at the bottom of the ocean. The water is still. You can breathe with ease. But something is keeping you from rising. A heavy anchor is tied to your ankle.

Take a moment to look at this anchor. What does it look like? How does it feel?

  • Notice its weight. Does it feel light or heavy?

  • Observe its shape. Is it large, small, smooth, or rough?

  • Recognize its meaning. What does it represent in your life?

There is no rush. Give yourself time to understand what this anchor means to you. The first step to freedom is knowing what you are ready to release.

Accept Help and Let Go

You are never alone. Help is always near when you are open to receiving it.

Imagine a small fish swimming toward you. It carries something in its mouth—a tool just for you. This tool will help you remove the anchor. It may be a key, a knife, or something else. Trust that it is exactly what you need.

  • Reach for the tool. Hold it in your hands.

  • Use it to free yourself. Remove what holds you back.

  • Look at your ankle. See where the anchor was. The marks will fade with time.

You are lighter now. The weight is gone. You are free to rise.

Letting Go and Rising Toward the Light

You start floating upward. The water around you grows warmer. The sunlight above grows brighter.

With every breath, you feel lighter. Every kick brings you closer to the surface. You are leaving the heaviness behind.

Then, you feel a small tug at your ankle. The anchor tries to pull you back. But you smile. You know it can no longer hold you. You are already free.

If fear or doubt tries to return one day, remember this: You always have the power to let go again. You can always rise.

With this knowledge, you swim upward one last time and break through the surface.

Step Into a Life of Freedom

The sunlight warms your skin. Fresh air fills your lungs. You look around and see the shoreline. Everything you love is waiting for you there.

You swim toward it with ease. No more weight. No more struggle. As you reach the shore, you step onto solid ground. You feel strong. You feel at peace.

Take a deep breath. Feel the warmth of the sun. Know that you are free.

Whenever you need, return to this meditation. The ocean will always be there, but you never have to stay in the depths. You can rise. You can choose peace. You can step forward into the life waiting for you.

Conclusion

You have taken a step toward letting go. You have released the weight that once held you down. Now, you stand lighter, stronger, and free to move toward the life you deserve.

Fear and doubt may try to return, but they no longer have power over you. You now hold the tool to break free whenever you need to. You have learned that peace is always within reach, and rising above your struggles is always possible.

Take a deep breath. Feel the warmth of this moment. Let the past stay behind you. Look ahead with trust in yourself.

You are not bound by your past. You are not your fear. You are strong. You are light. You are free.

Carry this peace with you. Walk forward with confidence. And remember, whenever you need a reminder, this meditation is here for you. You can always rise again.

The Power of Gratitude

This post is dedicated to my cat Ezio.  Rest In Peace, buddy.

“When will it happen?” I asked myself over and over again.  My journey this past year and a half has been one full of ups and downs, but I often found myself coming back to that singular inquiry.  When will the next big thing happen?  When will my next step show up?  When will everything pay off?

It’s always healthy to focus on the future, as a failure to plan is a plan to fail.  That being said, I’ve rediscovered the power of gratitude recently, and it has helped me in more ways than I can count.  “But Gregory,” a straw man says, “why would you ever think that gratitude can change your life?”  I’m so glad you asked.  Let me explain.

Focusing on the future without taking stock of present progress does one a huge disservice.  Instead of looking at what they’ve managed to accomplish, people with this mindset are always looking for the next thing to make them happy.  Their drive, therefore, is focused on needing more.  Needing more to make them happy.  But what happens when they get it?  It would seem that the cycle is doomed to repeat itself.

Look, we all need things.  And sometimes, it is just that one next step that will make everything better.  But I’ve found that there is something more powerful than that.  Gratitude changes focus in a more positive way.  Instead of putting energy into what I don’t have, it frees me and allows me to find peace by looking at what I do have.

For example, when I released my book, I immediately started to focus on all of the things that still needed to be done.  Make a website, promotion, paperbacks, audiobook, social media:  the list seemed endless.  This consumed me so much that I still have an unopened bottle of wine my mom gave me to celebrate the release of my book (It WILL be opened when my next one comes out!).  It turns out that, while I was thankful for the book’s release, I was so keyed into what I didn’t have and my “to do” list that I didn’t appreciate my accomplishment fully.

Fast forward to the beginning of this year.  After a lot of self-reflection, I decided to try gratitude on for size.  As it turned out, I found something amazing waiting for me on the other side.  Gratitude for my accomplishments went hand-in-hand with giving myself credit.  This led to happiness and love for myself and my abilities.  I’ve been more positive and appreciative of myself and that which has come my way (and is to come!).

Again, I’m not trying to throw future planning under the bus!  It’s very important.  But maybe, if you find yourself lacking fulfillment, reframing how you’re looking at your life may be a large help.  Consider being more appreciative of the blessings in your life, focusing instead on what you have rather than what you don’t.  My guess is that you’ll walk away a happier person than when you started.

Cheers,

Gregory T. Obert
